POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
かっちゃん
Katchan in Kyoto’s Kamigyo Ward serves soft-centred takoyaki with sweet sauce or negi ponzu, as well as egg-filled ika-yaki. Takeaway is available.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At Katchan, choosing a topping is part of the appeal of the takoyaki. One visitor ordered two kinds: sweet sauce, and ponzu topped with spring onion and mayonnaise. Both had soft, almost gooey centres, they reported. Choose the sweetness of the sauce or the lighter, tangy flavour of negi ponzu. Another diner noted the savoury depth of dashi in the batter; ordering different flavours side by side could make for an enjoyable comparison.
Some visitors also tried ika-yaki with egg. One described eating it piping hot, making it an option when you want to add something different from takoyaki.
Takeaway is available, and one person who ate at the restaurant reported that it has 3 seats. The shop is in Kyoto’s Kamigyo Ward and is open daily from 11:00 to 30 minutes past the hour, until 20:00. You can take your order away or eat nearby.
